Chi Nei Tsang – “working the energy of the internal organs”
Chi Nei Tsang is a type of Chinese massage which focusses on the internal organs and the flow of qi energy, rather than the skeletal or muscular structures.
The body’s energy, known as qi, flows along meridian lines throughout the body, nourishing the organs, nervous system, blood vessels and the lymph glands. These meridian lines largely overlap in the abdomen, which works as the control centre.
The abdomen can accumulate negative qi in the form of tension, stress and worry, which can greatly impede healthy energy circulation. For example, when one feels worry, they may also experience a ‘knot’ in the stomach, where the negative emotions and energy has accumulated and cannot find an outlet. Energy obstruction in the abdomen can lead to problems such as indigestion, constipation, blockages, irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, water and weight retention, irritation and pain.
Abdominal massage works by using gentle pressures and touches to release negative qi and to re-energise the area. It also works to retrain the internal organs (stomach, intestines, liver gallbladder) to work more efficiently and helps to purify the cells of both physical and emotional toxins.
The result is a cleansed and purified body and mind, where positive energy is free to circulate throughout and nourish the body.
